Superintendent of Police Tarun Joshi has said that the police had undertaken intensive combing operations in remote places abutting the forest area and also in erstwhile naxalite-affected areas to ensure smooth, free and fair conduct of all elections.
Over 4,400 persons, including 519 former militants, were bound over before revenue authorities by registering 637 security cases against them. As many as 900 licensed weapons were deposited at District Police Office. One kg ganja was seized and 29 election cases were booked against code violators.

He said here on Monday that a number of check-posts were set up on inter-State borders and on all roads and National Highways within the district to seize money and liquor illegally being transported to influence voters in the elections. If proper documents were not shown in support of the money being carried it would be handed over to officials concerned and released later after the proof was submitted, he said.
Appealing to people to cooperate with the police machinery in its duty and also in maintaining law and order, he said that apart from vehicles, lodges and other dens were also being raided. In 56 cases an amount of Rs.1.36 crore was seized apart from 3.261 kg gold and 24 kg of silver. Some 426 litres of liquor, and 141 litres of arrack was also recovered during the raids, he said.
