90 sand reaches identified inSrikakulam, Vizianagaram

Check-posts set up to stop illegal supply; transporting vehicles being monitored

Sand is being transported from the reach at Logisha in Vizianagaram district.

Sand being supplied in a hassle-free manner in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, with the officials identifying 90 reaches in both the districts.

As many as 72 reaches were identified in Vizianagaram district and nearly 15,000 tonnes of sand was supplied to applicants at various stock points.

Vizianagaram Collector M. Hari Jawaharlal said that there would not be any scarcity of sand with the development of new reaches in the district. “We are laying approach roads to all the reaches for the easy transport. Check-posts have been set up at three locations in the district to check illegal supply. Teams comprising revenue, police and mines departments will monitor the movement of vehicles ferrying sand at strategic points,” said Mr. Jawaharlal.

As many as 18 sand reaches have been identified and six storage points have been set up in Srikakulam district.

Around 10,000 tonnes of sand has been sent to various places in the last few days, said Srikakulam Collector J. Nivas.

“The district would cater to the 10% of the needs of the entire State, with the availability of huge stretches sand on the riverbeds of Vamsadhara, Nagavali, Mahendra Tanaya and Bahuda,” he said.

Assistant Director for Mines S.K.V. Satyanarayana said that the government had fixed the price at ₹375 per tonne. The transport charges will be collected depending on the distance from the stock points to the delivery pojnts.

“A lorry load of sand of 4.5 tonnes is being sold at ₹4,100 at Palasa, while the same is available for ₹2,400 in Srikakulam as reaches of Nagavali and Vamsadhara are near to the district headquarters,” he said.
