The Government General Hospital here has received 29 cases of suspected swine flu this month, and nine of them have tested positive.

However, all of them got themselves discharged from the hospital and went either to the Government General Hospital in Kurnool, or Bengaluru.

On Friday, five persons tested positive for the disease and all of them were children below the age of six.

Chief Medical Officer Lalitha said while two children went to Kurnool on Friday, three left the hospital on Saturday.

Hospital Superintendent A. Jagannath and Dr. Lalitha told The Hindu that they had created a special ward for the suspected cases and those testing positive were being quarantined. Those who test positive were being treated in a separate room on the upper floor of the Chest Ward.

Chest physician Ramaswamy, who has good experience working in Hyderabad, was treating the patients, they said.

“We have all the infrastructure and medicines to treat swine flu. But due to psychological fear, the patients are approaching other hospitals,” Dr. Laitha said.
