6 Congress activists hurt in attack at Santhokovvur

YSRC activists allegedly waylaid them and attacked with hunting sickles in Kadapa

Kadapa DCC president M. Ashok Kumar and partymen enquiring about the condition of an injured Congress activist in a private hospital in Kadapa on Sunday.

Six Congress functionaries sustained injuries when their rivals attacked them with hunting sickles and stones near the bus stand in Santhokovvur village in Thondur mandal on Saturday night.

Chandraobul Reddy, Rajagopala Reddy of Gangannapalle, Balanagi Reddy, Vijayabhaskar Reddy, Raja Reddy and Ramasubba Reddy of Santhakovvur sustained injuries, according to the police. Muni Reddy, Balagangi Reddy, Nagabhushana Reddy and other YSR Congress functionaries allegedly waylaid the Congressmen by placing a tractor on the road. When the Congressmen alighted their cars, the YSRC activists attacked them, police said.

The injured persons were sent to Pulivendula area hospital and admitted to a private hospital in Kadapa. Four YSRC functionaries were injured in stone-pelting by Congressmen during the attack and they lodged a complaint. Pulivendula DSP Harinath Babu enquired with the injured persons in hospital.

Police registered two cases of attack by YSRC activists and counter-attack by Congressmen on Sunday. The attack was a sequel to heckling of YSRC members by Congressmen during nomination filing for the sarpanch post of Santhakovvur gram panchayat, police said.

Meanwhile, Congress and YSRC functionaries had a verbal duel during scrutiny of nominations at Guvvalacheruvu in Ramapuram mandal.

Kadapa DCC President M. Ashok Kumar visited Tirumala hospital here and enquired with the injured Congressmen on the attack. YSRC activists attacked Congressmen fearing defeat in the panchayat elections. The Opposition party was luring people with money and acts of intimidation, he alleged. DCC Official Spokesman B. Prabhakar, Seva Dal chairman B. Jakraiah and leaders Muralimohan, K. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Ameer Basha and Srinivasulu Reddy participated.
