Five of the six candidates of Congress and Telugu Desam who filed their papers to the Rajya Sabha on Monday were ‘crorepatis' holding gold in kilograms, according to the declaration of assets filed by them before the Secretary, Legislature.
Topping the list is TDP nominee, C.M. Ramesh, a tycoon who runs infrastructure company and whose assets account for a whopping Rs.174.70 crore. He and his wife have 5.5 kg of gold jewellery and two kg of silver ornaments, besides owning a Toyoto Corolla and Innova. His wife also owns a BMW.
At the other end is journalist-turned-politician Rapolu Ananda Bhaskar of Congress. He stands out as the only exception to these crorepathis and his humble moveable and immovable assets are worth a mere Rs.7.5 lakh. His wife has Rs.15,000 each in cash, while he has bonds worth Rs.50,000.

He does not own any vehicle, while his wife has a two-wheeler registered on her name.
Film actor-turned-Congress leader K. Chiranjeevi follows Mr. Ramesh with Rs.82.69 crore worth assets. He and his wife have gold jewellery weighing 13.5 kg and 22 kg of silver ornaments. This apart, they possess diamond jewellery of 99 carats and 80 carats, respectively. The actor has a Honda CRV on his name, while his wife has an Accord. As for liabilities, he has taken loans and advances of Rs.7.48 lakh, while his wife took a loan of Rs.3.58 crore.
Going by the assets declared, third in the list is Congress nominee, Renuka Chowdary. She and her spouse are worth Rs.57.33 crore including gold jewellery worth about Rs.17 lakh.

Devender Goud of Telugu Desam comes next with Rs.38.20 crore. He has declared that he has two kg of gold jewellery and ten kg of silver ornaments, a sprawling 1,662-square yard residential building in Banjara Hills and a commercial building in Tukkuguda, his native village in Ranga Reddy district.
He has six acres of agriculture land while his wife, over two acres in Tukkuguda and five acres in Cherlaguda. He has two Ambassadors while his wife, a Honda Accord. Congress candidate Palvai Govardhan Reddy and his wife have Rs.2.35 crore worth assets.
