49 children rescued under ‘Operation Muskan’

Police, in association with Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) and a few Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) rescued children working in various establishments, runaway children at the public places in the city, on Wednesday.

Under ‘Operation Muskan’, the police teams rescued 42 boys and seven girls and handed them over to their parents.

The orphan children were shifted to different homes.

“Of the 49 children, 44 are from Andhra Pradesh, three were natives of Uttar Pradesh, one each from Karnataka and Rajasthan States. The children were rescued in pathetic conditions on pavements, railway and bus stations,” City Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang said.

Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) B.V. Ramana Kumar said the police rescued a boy, Muthu, of Tirupati, who was an orphan and suffering from cancer.

Treatment

The case would be taken to the notice of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and police will provide necessary treatment to Muthu, the JCP said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police T.K. Rana, Circle Inspector Rehana Begum and other officers were present.
