Heavy rain in many parts of Chittoor Division of the district on Saturday night and till early hours of Sunday led to breaching of four tanks in Nindra mandal near Puttur and four check dams in Irala mandal near Chittoor.
The Revenue Divisional Officer (Chittoor) Kodandarami Reddy said that though it rained heavily on Saturday night, it got reduced to drizzle from Sunday morning. "There are over two thousand tanks in Chittoor Division and nearly 90 per cent of them are brimming with water. Other than the four tanks, rest are strong as of now and there was not threat of breaches. However, we have kept all the Tehsildars on alert," he said.
The RDO said that the Araniyar project near Pichatur, NTR Reservoir at Kaluvakunta near Chittoor were full and the gates lifted. Regarding crop losses, a special team of officials would be deployed for study.

In Madanapalle Division, but for heavy drizzling, no rain was reported on Sunday. In PTM mandal and western parts of the division, three check dams had breached. Several streams connected to the Bahuda and Pincha rivers were overflowing on the causeways near Piler and Kalikiri.
In Palamaner and Kuppam constituencies, moderate rain was reported on Saturday and Sunday.
Meanwhile, pilgrims bound for Tirumala from various parts of Tamil Nadu witnessed hardships with bad condition of road between Chittoor and Tirupati. Soil erosion near Rangampeta cross has led to traffic snarl for the past one week. The pilgrim rush at Kanipakkam got reduced to nominal this weekend.

In Puttur, revenue officials undertook relief works in low-lying areas. The Krishnapuram Reservoir in Karvetinagar mandal is also brimming with water, but the officials ruledout any possibility of damage to the gates.
