3.5 lakh voters to exercise franchise in municipal elections

All arrangements are in place for the over 3.5 lakh voters to exercise their franchise in the polling to be held in six municipalities in Adilabad district on Sunday. The municipalities where elections will be held are Adilabad (92,343 voters), Nirmal (56,643), Bhainsa (34,044), Mancherial (73,985), Bellampally (55,695) and Kagaznagar (43,633).

There are a total of 326 polling stations in 190 wards in all the municipalities with Adilabad and Nirmal having the largest at 36 wards each. As many as 66 of these wards are categorised as hypersensitive while 112 are sensitive. Only 12 are categorised as normal — 2 in Mancherial, 8 in Bellampally and 2 in Kagaznagar.

The police have made elaborate bandobust for smooth conduct of the election and has drawn the force from local units. Some 12 units of striking force and special striking force each and 25 shadow teams were deployed during the campaign period which remained peaceful.
