The VAT dealers have to count 32 days in May to file the last returns in the combined state. Addressing a meeting of VAT and TOT dealers here on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes G. Dwarakanath Reddy asked the dealers to give their option of State before April 30. The dealers could opt for any state or both if they had business in both states.
The existing registration would be enough to register in single state while a fresh application had to be made for the second state. He wanted the dealers to imagine that two states would be different entities after June 1. The dealers were asked to file the returns for May inclusive of one day in June so that the returns from June 2 would be filed in their respective states.
The VAT dealers would have different Taxpayers Index Number as residual Andhra Pradesh would be prefixed with 37 and Telengana 36. The existing 28 for Andhra Pradesh would vanish. Mr. Reddy said the ToT dealers would have no change and had no option because the registration was district-specific.

Even though fresh registration certificate would be issued to dealers and number would change, the business data relating to the firms would continue even after transition. The dealers should open fresh books and ledgers.
He asked the dealers not to entertain apprehensions as out of 9,000 dealers in the district, nearly 8,500 dealers would continue in the successor State of Andhra Pradesh and only 500 required registrations in both States. The dealers should collect new numbers and registration certificates after June 2. Old VAT rules would continue even after appointed day and tax rules would change only after the respective governments revised the laws.
Assistant Commissioner Seshadri, Commercial Tax Officers (CTOs) Madhusudhan Rao, M. Sudhakar, Gouse Peera and Ramesh Kumar Reddy were present. Chamber of Commerce President I. Vijayakumar Reddy presided over the meeting.
