The Guntur Urban Police is fully geared up to handle the rush at the Krishna Pushkaralu, Guntur Superintendent of Police Sarva Sresth Tripathi said here on Tuesday.

During a guided tour to the major ghat at Seethanagaram, Mr. Tripathi said that a heavy influx of devotees is expected at the bathing ghats at Seethanagaram. The ghat extending to a length of 360 metres is located near the Prakasam Barrage and lakhs of people are expected to take a dip here. A smaller ghat extending up to 60 metres and a ghat exclusively for Pinda Pradanam are also being readied.

“We are expecting that the civil works would be completed by July 31 so that we could place barricades on the entry and exit routes,” said Mr. Tripathi.

The entry route to the ghat is through the screw bridge at Undavalli and the people would have to take a right turn to reach the ghat at Seethanagaram. After the dip, the exit is through the Ramakrishna Mission Road. The police are taking no chances as the approach road is narrow and is flanked by a hill on the right side and the river on the left, making the task of police formidable.

About 3,000 police personnel are being drafted by the Urban Police to man the ghats and look after bandobust arrangements.

DSP, North, G. Ramanjaneyulu, DSP, SB, B. Nageswara Rao and other police officers were present.
