The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday held a protest opposite the Collectorate demanding that the district administration sort out the problems of consumers with regard to the Direct Beneficiary Transfer scheme pertaining to the subsidy on LPG gas cylinders.
Speaking to The Hindu , the CPI (M) town secretary, Rambhupal, said that close to thirty per cent of the consumers who were surveyed by the party had not received the subsidy amount from the government in spite of having made full payments for the cylinder.
The CPI (M) had conducted a survey between September 27 and October 2, surveying a total of 2,000 families on various aspects of the DBT scheme with specific focus on the implementation of the scheme with regard to LPG cylinders.

Mr. Rambhupal appealed to the Civil Supplies Department to hold awareness meetings with all the stakeholders including consumers and bankers on a regular basis to ensure that the public doesn’t face hardships. Alleging that almost all consumers had been put to undue hardships to ensure their entitled subsidy by filling up application forms etc., he also demanded that consumers be informed of the exact margin they were expected to pay the gas agency on delivery of the cylinder as the price of the cylinders seemed to considerably change from one oil marketing company to another.
With regard to the above problems that surfaced in their survey, the CPI (M) submitted a memorandum to the District Supply Officer (DSO) to solve the same.
