3 killed as RTC bushits 108 ambulance

Three persons, including a patient, were killed in a road accident when an APSRTC bus hit an ambulance on the ADB Road here on Thursday.

The incident took place when a patient Taneti Sattibabu (40) of Marripudi village of Rangampet mandal was being shifted to the Government General Hospital in Kakinada in ‘108’ ambulance. The APSRTC bus was on its way to Rajahmundry from Kakinada and it hit the ambulance near the mushrooms factory at Peddapuram.

Sattibabu died on the spot while ambulance driver Medisetti Srinivasa Rao (42) of Anaparthy, and technician Tadikonda Umasankar (30), native of Vizianagaram, sustained severe injuries. They were rushed to the hospital here where they succumbed to injuries.

Some commuters in the bus too sustained minor injuries. The police took the bus driver into custody.

Home Minister N. Chinna Rajappa visited the spot. Residents of the vicinity told him that the particular spot turned into an accident zone and immediate repairs to the road was the need of the hour.

Mr. Rajappa contacted the officials of Roads & Buildings Department on telephone and instructed them to take up the necessary repairs to the road on a war-footing.
