216 in fray for Assembly seats in Krishna

Vijayawada West has 28 contestants, the highest in district

As many as 216 contestants are in the fray in the 16 Assembly constituencies in Krishna district.

The Returning Officers on Tuesday rejected a total of 75 nominations filed by candidates for various reasons including failure to fill up the nomination paper with required details as prescribed by the Election Commission of India.

The highest number of 28 contestants are in the fray in the Vijayawada West Assembly segment. In the Machilipatnam Assembly segment, nine are in the fray, the lowest in the district.

In the Vijayawada East Assembly segment, a record number of 17 out of 29 nominations were rejected by the authorities during scrutiny.

According to the Returning Officers, some aspirants have failed to provide the details pertaining to their ‘vote’ in the voter list while some forgot to take an oath before the Returning Officer.

Lok Sabha seats

In Machilipatnam Lok Sabha segment, 14 candidates are in the fray while four nominations were rejected during scrutiny. In the Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency, a total of 15 are in the contest and eight nominations were rejected on Tuesday, according to an official release from Collector and District Election Officer. The candidates who filed their nominations and representatives of the respective political parties have been invited to be present during the scrutiny process, for communicating to the candidates about the reason for rejecting their papers.
