As many as 15 huts were reduced to cinders when a fire broke out at the BJP Colony near the Bukkarayasamudram mandal headquarter village, around 6 km from here, on Thursday.

The huts caught fire at around 12 p.m. Though the authorities are yet ascertain the cause of fire, it was learnt that dry grass and plastic sheets used as the roof of the huts, along with the winds, had fanned the fire to spread further. Fire tenders brought the flames under control. While no human loss was reported from the incident, revenue officials made a preliminary estimate of the loss which was put at around Rs.6 lakh.

Meanwhile, the district Collector also directed the revenue officials to provide immediate relief to the victims and provide them with alternate shelters with immediate effect.
