1,270 booths set up for ZPTC, MPTC polls today

The stage is set for the conduct of the second phase MPTC and ZPTC elections under the watchful eyes of 6,855 poll officials in Prakasam district on Friday.

The officials on poll duty and election material have reached the 1,270 polling stations set up in 28 mandals as 9.42 lakh voters including 4.71 lakh women would seal the fate of 969 MPTC and 100 ZPTC candidates for 374 MPTC seats and 28 ZPTC seats, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer A. Prasad said after a review of the poll arrangements here on Thursday.

Six MPTC candidates have been elected unanimously for the MPTC seats in Muthyalapadu( Lingasamudram mandal), Gudevaripalem(Peda Cherlopalli), Christianpalem(Darsi), Mannepalli(Tallur), Pedapattapupalem(Ulavapadu) and Chakirala(Kanigiri).

Webcasting

As many as 132 students from five engineering colleges have been roped in for webcasting of the proceedings in hypersensitive polling stations.

While the YSRC has fielded 363 MPTC and 27 ZPTC candidates, the TDP has 374 MPTC and 28 ZPTC contestants in the fray. The Congress could not field candidates for 339 MPTC and 21 ZPTC posts. As many as 166 MPTC and 25 ZPTC candidates preferred to contest the polls as independent.
