The State government on Thursday accorded administrative sanction for a sum of ₹100 crore towards facilitating drinking water supply in the rural areas from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), a G.O. issued on behalf of Secretary (Disaster Management) D. Varaprasad said.
It was stated that the Engineer-in-Chief of the Rural Water Supply Department had requested through the Department of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development for sanction of ₹184.79 crore to the district Collectors from the SDRF for mitigating the drinking water problem in habitations across the State during the 2019 summer. Accordingly, the government sanctioned the amount to the Collectors as per the SDRF / NDRF norms.
Prakasam district got the highest allocation of ₹41 crore. It was followed by Chittoor ₹16 crore, Kadapa ₹14 crore, Anantapur ₹10 crore, and Kurnool ₹4.50 crore in the Rayalaseema region. In coastal and north Andhra districts, Guntur and Nellore got ₹6 crore each, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, and East and West Godavari districts ₹50 lakh each and Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts ₹25 lakh each.
