‘Protect interests of BCs’

June 19, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:19 pm IST - KAKINADA:

Stating that inclusion of Kapus in the BC list was not going to affect the existing BCs provided Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu fulfilled all his poll promises, president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee BC Cell Nurukurthi Venkateswara Rao said on Saturday the interests of the BCs should be protected in the event of the inclusion.

“In its manifesto, the Telugu Desam Party promised to shift castes like Rajaka and Boya from BC to the SC list. If this promise is fulfilled before including Kapus in the BC list, there won’t be much disturbance for the existing set-up. Otherwise, some special arrangement should be made to protect the interests of the BCs,” he said addressing a press conference here.

Referring to the solidarity expressed with Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham by party senior leaders, Mr. Rao said the Congress had clarity on the reservations. He further demanded stringent action against the officials of the Hyderabad Central University in the Vemula Rohith’s suicide case. “Now the government clarified that Rohith is from the Scheduled Castes. It should also give equal importance to punishing the guilty who instigated Rohith to take the extreme decision,” he said holding the Central Ministers responsible for the incident. “Our leader Rahul Gandhi visited the university twice and comforted the family members of Rohith. But none of the BJP leaders visited the family so far,” he said. Chairman of the APCC SC wing Katru Sudhakar Babu and other leaders were present.
