Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, known as Amma, has announced a donation of $1 million (about Rs.4.5 crore) towards the relief and rehabilitation of tsunami victims in Japan.
The amount will be used particularly for the education of children who lost both their parents in the nature's fury.
Vice-chairman of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Swami Amritaswarupananda, said in a press release here on Monday that the donation was announced by Amma at a public programme in Shinagawa, Japan, on Sunday.

The amount will be provided by the Mata Amritanandamayi Centre, United States, along with Amma's global charitable network known as ‘Embracing the World.' It will be handed over to the Governor of Miyagi in mid-August.
Amma's volunteers have been participating in the relief work, including cleaning rubble from houses and agriculture fields, assisting elderly persons and children at relief camps, distribution of food, utensils, medicine and other daily necessities from March 13, two days after the earthquake and tsunami hit parts of Japan, the press release added.
