All-party meeting in Bangalore today

September 28, 2012 11:00 pm | Updated June 28, 2016 11:37 pm IST - BANGALORE:

The directions of the Supreme Court to the Karnataka government to release water has caused anxiety to the Jagadish Shettar government, given the opposition by political parties and farmers’ organisations.

Informed sources said an all-party meeting was called for Saturday. Mr. Shettar and Minister for Water Resources Basavaraj Bommai are keen on finalising a stand on the water release issue, given the nature of the opposition from various organisations.

The catchments of the Kapila and the Cauvery have received good rainfall over the past 24 hours, as had happened earlier this month when Tamil Nadu sought 2 tmc ft a day and the Supreme Court directed Karnataka to release at least 1 tmc ft a day until September 20.
