The Akal Takht has cautioned against increased activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh in Punjab, especially in the rural areas. The development has added a new dimension to the ongoing tensions within the ruling Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance.
According to reports, this caution came at a meeting of "Singh Sahibs" (apex clerics) presided over by Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh inside the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar on Tuesday.
Sources said that "Singh Sahibs" were concerned about the RSS activities especially over reports of marches through some towns in the Malwa region where swayamsewaks openly sported guns, pistols and other weapons. The RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is also said to have visited the heads of various "deras" in the State.

The development assumes significance in the backdrop of growing differences between the Akali Dal and the BJP.
Recently, former Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh had also highlighted the need to check RSS activities in the countryside.
