Advani’s blog post, full of metaphors on mythological and historical characters, raises eyebrows

He penned it the day unidentified persons staged a demonstration outside his residence in New Delhi in support of Narendra Modi

The >latest entry on the >blog of senior BJP leader L.K. Advani , who has triggered a storm by skipping the party’s national executive meeting on grounds of ill-health, has raised eyebrows, as it is full of metaphors on mythological and historical characters.

Penned on Saturday, the day when unidentified persons staged a demonstration outside his residence in New Delhi in support of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, it begins with a word of praise for a sandalwood carving of Lord Krishna’s Vishwaroop, which he says has “Bhishma Pitamah on his bed of arrows sermonising to the Pandavas.”

At the meeting, where Mr. Modi was made chairman of the party’s election campaign committee, the blog set tongues wagging whether the veteran leader was talking about his current state of mind.

Mr. Advani says he had heard about Kamal Haasan’s

Vishwaroopam a fortnight ago and wanted to watch it after learning that it was controversial.

He got a chance when Mr. Haasan, while in Delhi, invited him for a special screening.

And then, he talks about an anecdote he had heard in his school days in Karachi, which he narrated to Mr. Haasan.

“The story is about a meeting Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini had during the Second World War, in which Hitler tells the Italian supremo that the sins [they] committed… would prove very costly to them after death.”

While Mussolini tells Hitler that he will seek the Pope’s help in obtaining a pass to heaven, Hitler suggests that he commend his name too to the Pope. The narration ends with both fascist leaders landing in hell and only the Pope reaching heaven.

A couple of days ago, Congress MP from Goa Shantaram Naik equated Mr. Modi to such dictators as Hitler and Pol Pot.
