The city police lodged a First Information Report on Monday against Right to Information (RTI) activist and peasant leader Akhil Gogoi, accusing him of assaulting a police official.

The incident reportedly occurred during a demonstration at Dispur by some activists of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) led by Mr. Gogoi demanding grant of land pattas to landless people in the city.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Dispur Division, Dulen Chandra Deka alleged that Mr. Gogoi assaulted him as he was being arrested.

‘Forcibly pushed'

He was forcibly pushed inside a bus and if he had collided with the police official he could not be held responsible.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Apurba Jibon Barua said the KMSS protestors caused inconvenience to the general public by blocking the road, forcing the police to intervene.

Mr. Gogoi was booked for violating the law when he obstructed the police from discharging their duty.

The SSP alleged that Mr. Gogoi kicked the DSP when he was booked for violating the law.
