AAP satisfied, to play ‘genuine Opposition’

Encouraged by exit poll results that gave the Aam Aadmi Party up to five Lok Sabha seats, its leader Yogendra Yadav on Wednesday said the AAP would play genuine Opposition in Parliament.

“In a Narendra Modi scenario, I do not expect the Congress to put up an opposition. In such a scenario, the AAP will be relevant.”

The Hindu , the AAP’s chief spokesperson said: “I have reason to be satisfied. If you look at 1984 when the Bharatiya Janata Party first contested elections after coming out of the Janata Party, it got only two seats and a 7.7 per cent vote share.

The Bahujan Samaj Party, in its debut in 1989, got only three seats and 2.4 per cent vote share.

The AAP is a completely fresh party not dependent on caste or community. If it gets a 4 per cent share, it is an extraordinary achievement.
