The Hindu registers impressive growth

The Hindu’s readership has recorded an impressive overall growth, according to the latest release of Indian Readership Survey 2012 Q2.

The Hindu gained 131,000 readers — a growth rate of 6.3 per cent in national readership as compared to the corresponding quarter last year. The publication’s current Average Issue Readership (AIR) is 22.08 lakh readers. Once again, The Hindu retains its position as the most read English daily in South India and the third largest English newspaper nationally.

The growing trend prevails across all the southern States. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry registered a growth of 3.7 per cent, adding 39,000 readers, while Kerala added 25,000 (growth of 8.1 per cent) over the corresponding quarter in 2011. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh readership grew by 4.8 and 4.1 per cent respectively.

The IRS confirms

The Hindu ’s commanding lead in Chennai with an AIR of 5.31 lakh, more than all other English dailies in the metro put together and 2.4 times that of
The Times of India .

In Delhi, readership of The Hindu grew by a stupendous 42.5 per cent. The paper added 48,000 readers, taking its current readership in the State to 161,000. It is the only major English publication to register growth there over the last year.

Business Line , The Hindu group’s business daily, also registered an impressive growth of 22.6 per cent, adding 24,000 readers in Q2 2012 over the corresponding quarter last year.
