Reserving its verdict on the role of BCCI president-in-exile N. Srinivasan in Indian cricket, the Supreme Court quizzed the Board on Wednesday on how it had allowed former India captain K. Srikkanth to be a national team selector when he was already a mentor to an IPL team.
“He is in the national team selection committee. He is also mentor to an IPL team. How did you ever think of keeping him there? We are after all talking about the selection of talent for the national team here,” Justice T.S. Thakur asked BCCI counsel C. Aryama Sundaram.
During the hearing, counsel produced a list of names of persons who would also, as Mr. Srinivasan, be affected by the Supreme Court’s view of what makes “conflict of interest.”

The BCCI listed Brajesh Patel, Anil Kumble, Sunil Gavaskar, K. Srikkanth, Sourav Ganguly, Venkatesh Prasad and Lalchand Rajput, saying these individuals’ commercial interests too would suffer if amendment 6.2.4 was struck down.
But the Bench picked up Mr. Srikkanth from the list of names.
