Six Indian women make it to Forbes list

Forbes recognises 50 powerful businesswomen in Asia, who are driving change across diverse industries.

Six Indians find place in Forbes top-50 list of ‘Asia’s Power Businesswomen 2015’. A businesswoman from Chennai too figures in this illustrious list.

Akhila Srinivasan, Managing Director, Shriram Life Insurance Company Ltd., joins the list that includes leading names in the banking field such as Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman and Managing Director of State Bank of India, and Chanda Kochhar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICICI Bank.

The other three are: Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Founder, Biocon; Shikha Sharma, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Axis Bank; and Usha Sangwan, Managing Director of LIC of India.

 Ms. Akhila Srinivasan holds a Ph.D. in Economics, focusing on micro-credit for women entrepreneurs. Under her leadership, the Shriram Group set up the Shriram Foundation in 1993.

She has been with the $13.3 billion assets under management Shriram Group —parent of Shriram Life and India’s largest financial conglomerate — for 29 years. She started in truck financing, working her way up until in 2005 she launched Shriram Life. She is the only woman on the board of Shriram Capital, holding company for Shriram Group.
