Pakistan and India should resume their stalled peace process to resolve all outstanding issues including Kashmir, and enhance people-to-people contact to achieve prosperity in the region, the Opposition PML-N Chief and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday.
He made these remarks during a meeting with the Indian High Commissioner Sharat Sabharwal, at his residence in the resort of Murree, on Wednesday afternoon.
Mr. Sharif said the peace process which started in 1999 during his tenure as Prime Minister, should have continued. He said instead of allegations and counter-allegations, both countries should adopt a positive attitude and problems between them should be resolved through negotiations.

“If issues like Kashmir are resolved by the two neighbours, a new era of development will usher in peace and prosperity in the region,” Mr. Sharif said.
He also stressed the need to increase trade relations between Pakistan and India.
Mr. Sabharwal conveyed the good wishes of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Mr. Sharif and said his efforts for peace and democracy were appreciated in India.
