The special CBI court on Friday granted a plea of the former Gujarat Minister of State for Home, Amit Shah, one of the prime accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh-Kausar Bi murder case, for exemption from appearing before the court in person.
The court agreed that he could be presented before the court through video-conferencing instead.
The request was granted on the grounds of security for the former Minister and sparing huge efforts required for police deployment to ensure his safety.

The court directed that he be presented before the court through video-conferencing on September 3.
Mr. Shah was due to be presented in the court on Saturday when his current remand to judicial custody expires.
However, Mr. Shah sent the request to the CBI court of A.Y. Dave for video-conference facility from his Sabarmati jail enclosure, where he is lodged.

Mr. Shah said the newly-constructed Ahmedabad (rural) court premises had the facility and his request was promptly granted.
