Search on for ‘terrorist' in Chittoor

June 08, 2010 11:50 pm | Updated June 09, 2010 03:53 am IST - TIRUPATI:

Police are on the lookout for an alleged Pakistani terrorist who has reportedly sent email to different addresses in the last five days from an internet centre in Chittoor, 64 km from here.

The arrival of a 10-member team from the Bengaluru-based Cyber Crimes division has created ripples in the district headquarters town, which is close to the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka borders.

Superintendent of Police Ramakrishna, however, downplayed the reports, saying that what brought the Bengaluru team was the fact that the “terrorist” had, in his email address, claimed he belonged to Pakistan.

Mr. Ramakrishna said it was this “trail” that led the sleuths to an internet centre at the APSRTC bus station in Chittoor. The team was said to have seized the hard disk and systems from the internet centre, whose owner said he did not know the identity of the ‘Ahmed' since a number of people visited the centre daily. No one was arrested or detained.
