SC sets up special court for coal scam trial

The Supreme Court on Friday appointed senior advocate R.S. Cheema as Special Public Prosecutor for the coal blocks allocation trial.

Additional Sessions Judge Bharat Parashar will hold trial in all cases arising out of coal scam, said the apex court.

The court of ASJ Bharat Parashar will be notified as a special court which will exclusively deal with coal scam, and this special court will conduct the trial in coal scam on a day-to-day basis.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered the setting up of a special court ahead of the coal scam trial.

A bench of Chief Justice R.M. Lodha, Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Kurian Joseph had also asked the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court to name a judge to preside over this special court by July 25.
