The Supreme Court dismissed on Friday a public interest litigation petition seeking the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha for the Congress.
A three-judge Bench, headed by Chief Justice of India R.M. Lodha, rejected the petition filed by Manohar Lal Sharma, lawyer, seeking the court’s intervention as the Congress was the largest Opposition party in the House.
“We are not here to settle political issues under Article 32 [of the Constitution under which PIL petitions are moved in the Supreme Court],” the Bench said.

“The ruling of the Speaker given in her chambers is not open to judicial review,” Mr. Justice Lodha told Mr. Sharma. The petition challenged the opinion of Attorney-General Mukul Rohatgi against giving the Congress the post.
