Describing India as a rising global power, a bi-partisan resolution introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives has expressed support for the country’s bid for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council.

The resolution, introduced by Democratic Congressman Alcee Hastings on Thursday and supported by half-a-dozen other lawmakers, has now been referred to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Appreciating India for being a strong democratic ally, key economic partner and rising global power, the resolution favours its inclusion as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
