Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, who rushed to the train accident site in Karnataka to monitor relief and rescue measures, has ordered an inquiry “to fix responsibility” and promised all help to the affected.
Expressing grief over the mishap, the Minister announced a compensation of Rs. two lakh for the families of the deceased. While Rs 50,000 would be given to those severely injured, Rs 20,000 would be given to those who suffered simple injuries.

Ten passengers were killed and 16 seriously injured when nine bogies of the Ernakulam—bound Express train from Bengaluru derailed between Anekal—Hosur on the Karnataka—Tamil Nadu border at around 7.40 AM.

Chairman, Railway Board, AK Mittal and Director General Health Services, MK Budhalkoti have also rushed to the site to ensure speedy operation.
An inquriy into the mishap will be conducted by the Commissioner Railway Safety, SK Mittal.

“The railway safety commissioners inquiry report into the incident will be taken seriously and stringent action will be taken if any individual is found culpable. Railway safety has been our prime focus and it will remain so. Based on the report, care will be taken to correct any anomaly that led to this accident. Railways will bear all medical expenses of all injured so that they get back to their normal self as early as possible,” the Minister said. He visited Sparsh Hospital to meet six patients and announced and enhanced ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh for the deceased, Rs. 50,000 for grievously injured and Rs. 25,000 for minor injuries.
