Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday took a dig at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, saying, “If you google his name, then you will find the largest number of jokes on his name.”

At an election rally at Bijnor, Mr. Modi also criticised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's decision to have coalition with the Congress. “You sided with the Congress leader who has largest number of jokes on him in Google,” he said.

Amid a strong Jat anger against the BJP, Mr. Modi invoked Chaudhry Charan Singh, comparing his government with that of the latter's.  “The Congress didn't leave any opportunity to insult Chaudhry Charan Singh,” he said.

“If you have to save Uttar Pradesh, then stay away from "do kumbe" [the Samajwadi Party family and the Congress) which looted the State and India,” he said.  “The SP does good only to one village and its own family and doesn't do anything even for its own votebank.”

Mr. Modi referred to SP patriarch Mulayam Singh's statement on rape, “The SP government is not competent enough to provide safety to the State. It has failed to provide safety to innocent honest citizens and the women,'' he alleged.

Mr. Modi promised to provide funds to farmers on Charan Singh's name in every district if the BJP comes to power in the State.
