Raghavan holds talks with SIT officials

April 24, 2011 06:41 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 03:40 am IST - GANDHINAGAR:

Chairman of the Supreme Court–appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) R. K. Raghavan arrived here on Sunday and held discussions with SIT officials.

Sources in the SIT said the purpose of the visit was to prepare a report for submission to the Supreme Court in the next couple of days and the hearing of a petition filed by Zakia Jafry, wife of the former Congress member of the Lok Sabha Ehsan Jafry, who was among those killed in the Gulberg Society massacre.

Mr. Raghavan declined to say anything on his discussions with the SIT officials. But the sources said the affidavit filed by senior Gujarat cadre IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, indicting Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the 2002 riots, and his strong criticism of the functioning of the SIT, dominated the discussion.

Mr. Bhatt's affidavit is expected to come up for hearing in the apex court along with Ms. Jafry's petition.
