Quake shakes North East, none injured

An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale shook parts of the North East on Thursday, the second in two days, officials said here.

The quake which occurred at 3.28 p.m. has its epicentre in Bhutan, about 183 km North West from here and occurred at a depth of 7 km below the earth’s surface, officials at the Central Seismological Observatory here said.

There were no reports of injuries to people or damage to property. This was the second quake in two days and 34th this year in the region which falls in the highly seismic zone. A quake of similar intensity rocked the region on December 29.
