Seven months after the German Bakery bomb blast here, Pune police have announced formation of an Anti-terrorism cell comprising 14 men including an inspector who will be fully focused on monitoring terror activities in the city.

This cell is in addition to the Special Operations Wing (SOW) which is already functional on the terrorism front, officials said.

According to ACP Anant Shinde, the cell will focus on the “movements of suspicious persons” in the city and police inspector Sunil Tambe who is heading the SOW will also be in charge of the new squad.

The measure has been taken in view of the increased terrorist activity in Pune region.

Meanwhile, police authorities have cracked the whip on the mushrooming unlicensed cyber cafes in the city following revelations that the German Bakery attack plan had been hatched at a Cyber cafe in Udgir in Marathwada region.

The blast at the popular eatery in Koregaon Park here killed 16 people and left over 60 injured on February 13.
