Pratap Bhanu Mehta gets Malcom Adiseshiah Award

Pratap Bhanu Mehta, president, Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi, has been selected for this year’s Dr. Malcom Adiseshiah Award, instituted by the Malcom and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust.

Announcing the award winner, H.B.N. Shetty, trustee, said the three-member jury, which met in New Delhi on March 29, unanimously recommended the name of Pratap Bhanu Mehta for the award from seven nominations. The award will be presented on November 21 and it consists of Rs 2 lakh cash and a citation. The award is being given every year to a social scientist for his/her contribution in the broad area of economics and development studies.

Mr. Shetty said Prof. Mehta had done extensive public policy work. His areas of research included political theory, Constitutional Law, society and politics in India, governance and political economy and international affairs. He was a Member-Convenor of the National Knowledge Commission and was previously visiting professor of Government at Harvard University, Associate Professor of Government and of Social studies at Harvard. He was also Professor of Philosophy and of Law and Governance at Jawaharlal Nehru University and has held a visiting appointment at the University of Pennsylvania.
