Pakistan on Thursday released 150 Indian fishermen lodged in jails here in a goodwill gesture, days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif to greet him on the holy month of Ramzan amid a war of words between the two countries.
The Pakistan authorities said they had released 150 Indian fishermen from the Landhi and Malir jails.
The Indian fishermen left for Lahore from Karachi’s Cantonment station by Karakoram Express in the evening and will be handed over to Indian authorities at the Wagah border on Friday.

Two bogies were specifically reserved for the Indian fishermen who were given bouquets and gifts by jail authorities and officials of the Edhi Welfare Foundation, a non-profit social welfare organisation, before boarding the train.
The Edhi Trust officials also handed over $100 each to help the fishermen meet their travelling expenses till they reach home.
