PAC report may be circulated to members today

April 27, 2011 01:42 am | Updated September 27, 2016 08:19 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Preparations are on to finalise the report of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on the 2G spectrum allocation. PAC chairman Murli Manohar Joshi was closeted in his study for most of the day on Tuesday, giving final touches to it.

Normally, PAC reports are circulated to the members a day before they are signed and adopted. The next, and possibly final, meeting of this committee — its term will end on April 30 — has been scheduled for April 28 when Dr. Joshi would expect the report to be adopted. Till Tuesday evening, the members did not receive the draft report.

Some members said only after receiving the report and studying it, they would be in a position to say whether they would put their signatures of approval on it.

They indicated they could consider giving dissent notes if they disagreed with the findings.

The last two meetings witnessed disagreement between the members on summoning key persons. Some wanted the PAC to summon the former Telecom Minister, A. Raja, but Dr. Joshi ruled that out, saying as Mr. Raja is in jail, getting him to appear before the PAC would be time-consuming.

However, strong views were expressed against finalising the report before talking to the key accused.
