Around 20 to 25 drifting containers were retrieved from the sea on Tuesday after a ship used in the salvage operations “positioned one floating crane and two tugs for towing and picking up floating containers drifting in the channel,” a defence press note stated.
Agencies discussed the plan for removal of oil and salvage with Capt. Eric JB Kraan, GM, SMIT International, the Singapore-based company in charge of operations.
“The salvage agency plans to lift submerged containers by using air bags and tow them to a shallow corner. The accommodation barge with crane Sea Patriot-C4 [has been] arranged for positioning close to MSC Chitra for continuous pumping of oil or salvage. Mobilisation of gears or pumps is also in hand. Customs is being liaised by Coast Guard for clearance on priority,” the note stated.
