Order to issue notices to Hiranandani, IAS officer

A sessions court in Mumbai on Wednesday ordered that notice be issued to developer Hiranandani and T C Benjamin, principal secretary, Urban Development department, in connection with a private complaint against them.

The case pertains the construction of low-cost housing for in the suburb of Powai. Hiranandani Developers have been accused of having flouted norms to build luxury homes.

Advocate Ashish Giri, the complainant’s lawyer said the court ordered to issue notice to seven respondents, including the developers, Mr. Benjamin and former Maharashtra chief secretary Johnny Joseph. “We first went to the magistrate’s court, which ruled we have no locus standi as we are not directly or indirectly affected. We then appealed to the sessions court,” Mr. Giri said. The matter has been posted to for November 27.
