Choumondalpur has a predominantly Muslim population and is increasingly shifting its allegiance to the BJP from the Trinamool.

One person was killed in renewed violence at Choumondalpur village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district on Sunday.

People claimed that Jasim Sheikh, a BJP supporter, was working in his fields when supporters of the Trinamool Congress attacked the village with country-made guns and bombs. Houses were looted and bombs thrown at the village. Sheikh was shot dead during the attack. State BJP president confirmed that he was their supporter.

Four persons were reportedly arrested and police have been deployed in the village.
