A tour operator from Guwahati, Assam who was rescued after being half buried in the debris of a completely collapsed Kathmandu hotel said he wanted to be admitted to AIIMS hospital in Delhi. Speaking from the emergency ward at the Manmohan Memorial Hospital in the capital, Abhijit Baruah told The Hindu that he survived the quake but “apathy from Indian embassy officials” in Kathmandu disappointed him.
However, an embassy official told The Hindu that they were doing their best to take care of the most needy Indians affected by the quake.
“We have consulted the doctors and we will do as per their suggestion, Indian embassy spokesperson Abhay Kumar said. “We have asked IAF to bring a medic and a special stretcher that is needed to carry Mr. Baruah.”

Mr. Baruah and his group had barely checked in at the hotel when the quake hit. Those having late breakfast managed to escape; others in the room could not, according to him.
Dr. Arun Mani Dixit, director of the hospital, said Mr. Baruah has spinal injury and three of his ribs on the right side are broken. “We have advised him not to move since that will lead to lower oxygen and saturation.”
