Naved makes confessional statement at Jammu court

NIA had earlier put Naved through a lie-detector test to ascertain the sequence of events leading up to the Udhampur attack.

Udhampur terror attack accused Naved made a confessional statement before a Jammu court on Wednesday. He has been sent to judicial custody.

“The statement has been recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which is admissible as evidence in court. It will strengthen our case,” said a senior NIA official.

The agency had earlier put Naved through a >lie-detector test to ascertain whether he had given correct information on the sequence of events leading up to the attack on a Border Security Force convoy in Udhampur on August 5.

At Naved’s instance, the NIA arrested an alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) conduit from Awantipura in the Kashmir Valley for extending logistical support to him and other Pakistani terrorists. The accused, who is a truck driver, had helped the module conduct reconnaissance in Jammu.

The agency has announced a Rs.10-lakh reward on Abu Qasim alias Abdur Rehman, a Pakistani national who is said to be the LeT commander in south Kashmir.

A reward of Rs.5 lakh each has also been declared on two other Pakistani suspects, Abu Okasha and Zhargham, who had sneaked into the country along with Naved in the first week of June.
