All major central trade unions (CTUs) will hold a national convention in the Capital on Monday to register their protest against unprecedented rise in the prices of essential goods and commodities.
Discarding their animosity and political bickering, this is the first time in 25 years that all CTUs have come together on a single platform for a common cause, Gurudas Dasgupta, general secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), said here on Sunday.
The central trade unions held their first meeting on July 19 and have had three more meetings since then to finalise the details of the national convention where the future course of action will be decided. This will be followed by four State level conventions at Chennai, Lucknow, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

Concerns
The trade unions are also unhappy about continuing job losses, non-implementation and violation of labour laws in India, no security cover for the unorganised sector and disinvestment of shares of the profit-making public sector undertakings.
The trade unions that have come together on these issues are the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh-supported Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Left-backed Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), AITUC, Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS) and the Congress supported Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC).

‘Broadest unity’
This is the broadest unity displayed to protest against the government’s policies, Mr. Dasgupta said.
