On the eve of assembly elections in three states, BJP on Monday claimed that it is going to win an absolute majority in Maharashtra while improving its voting percentage and emerging stronger in Haryana.

“The electorate of Maharashtra wants a change of guard and will give an overwhelming majority to the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. The Golden Jubilee year of the state’s formation will mark a new beginning after suffering misrule for the last 10 years,” the BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

He claimed the NDA alliance will win more than 144 seats in the 288 member Maharashtra assembly.

Anti-incumbency issues like price rise, plight of farmers, lack of power and frequent power cuts, plus the rebellion in Congress-NCP alliance and problems in Republican Party led front after the Lok Sabha polls were enumerated by the BJP MP as the reasons that would help BJP-Shiv Sena win.

“The voters are very aware and so I don’t think there will be a hung assembly,” he said.

When asked about BJP’s expectations in Haryana, Mr. Javadekar said the party is fighting on its own steam and would improve on its previous performance by getting more votes, higher voting percentage in its favour and more seats this time.

“We will emerge as a strong force,” Mr. Javadekar said.

BJP had only two seats in the outgoing 90-member Haryana assembly.
