The National Democratic Alliance will win a resounding majority in the next Lok Sabha polls, winning 300 seats, BJP spokesman and the party’s Maharashtra in-charge Rajiv Pratap Rudy has said. He rejected suggestions of a third front forming a government.
The United Progressive Alliance government was responsible for gross corruption and economic slowdown. “The UPA-2 is in its last leg with cracks developing within the Manmohan Singh-led government. Look how its allies, the DMK and the TMC, have withdrawn support,” he said.
On reports of ‘rift’ between UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister, he said Dr. Singh was never at the helm of affairs. “There have always existed differences between 10 Janpath [Ms. Gandhi’s official residence] and 7 Race Course Road [Dr. Singh’s residence and workplace]. As a result, the UPA has never been effective in its second term,” Mr. Rudy told journalists here.

At the same time, he rejected suggestions of factionalism within his own party, claiming that “the BJP stood united.”
The BJP’s youthful leadership in Maharashtra would ensure the party’s victory in the 2014 Assembly elections, he said.
On the BJP’s opposition to the contentious Food Security Bill, he said while his party welcomed the legislation, the Congress should first sort out the issue with its alliance partner, the Nationalist Congress Party, which had expressed reservations about the Bill.
