Armed with Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian’s report on the revenue-neutral rates for the Goods and Services Tax regime, the National Democratic Alliance government will initiate fresh talks with the Congress and other Opposition parties early next week, said Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha.
“We are always in discussions with our Opposition colleagues. We are hoping that early next week, we will continue those discussions and consultations,” Mr. Sinha said to a query from The Hindu on whether the government will initiate fresh talks with the Congress to forge a consensus on passing the GST Constitutional Amendment Bill in Parliament.
“We have provided not just more detail, but very robust analytics with a high degree of transparency. That forms a very good basis for further discussions,” he explained, adding that parliamentarians must read the report of the Chief Economic Adviser.

“All observers of the economy, including our colleagues in the Opposition, should go through the report and consider its impact on economic growth. They would realise this is a historic opportunity to really move the economy forward and create jobs for our young people,” the Minister said.
