Muslim leaders from across the country met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to express “apprehensions” over the increased radicalisation and the “emerging threat of terrorism.”
Mr. Modi assured them of “full support in redressing the grievances of all sections of Muslim society,” said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The delegation included Syed Sultan-Ul-Hasan Chishti Misbahi (Sazzada Nashin, Ajmer Sharif); Hazrat Ghulam Yasin Sahib (Shahar Kazi, Varanasi); Sheikh Wasim Ashrafi (Imam Tanzeem, Mumbai); Er. Mohd. Hamid (national president, Imam Tanzeem, Nagpur); Allama Tasleem Raaza Sahib (Dargah Barelvi Sharif, U.P.) among others. The leaders underlined the need for greater unity and collective efforts to meet the challenge, while bringing to Mr. Modi’s notice issues relating to the property of Muslim shrines, mosques and madrassas. They also sought the government’s support in providing better facilities to Muslim youth, especially in education.

“He specifically assured the leaders that he will look into their grievances on shrines, masjid and madrassas. He further promised [them] his assistance in ameliorating their social conditions and addressing their educational requirements,” the statement said.
“The Muslim leaders reiterated full support to the Prime Minister in meeting his objectives of ensuring speedy economic growth, promoting communal harmony and peace,” it said.
